WN9FQS in 1970, Larry has held his current call sign since upgrading to a
General Class license in November 1971. He has held his extra class
license since 1990, and is mostly active operating SSB generally on 20m, but also on 80m,
40m, 17m, 15m, 12m,
10m DX and
2m FM. Primary HF Station is a Kenwood TS-850S, Ameritron AL-811A, into a
Mosley TA33jr-WARC Yagi at 8 meters and a B&W 1.8-30 folded dipole. He
serves as an ARRL Official Observer for the Indiana section.
Outside of amateur radio, Larry works as a theatrical lighting designer and stage director for over the past thirty years. He received his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from Purdue University Calumet in Radio/TV/Theater Production and Management, and recently completed his Doctor of Fine Arts (D.F.A.) in Theatre Studies. He works as the Auditorium Director for the Munster Auditorium in Northwest Indiana, a 1000 seat theater plus Producer/Director of the Munster Theatre Company. Prior to that was the Theatre Administrator/Production Manager for The Center for Visual & Performing Arts professional theater operation Theatre at The Center, also serving as resident lighting designer. He worked as Auditorium/Theater Director for Highland's Monbeck Auditorium for 13 years. Larry has been seen as an on-air television pledge host for Lakeshore (WYIN-TV) Public Television, on the board of directors for Lakeshore Public Television (WYIN-TV) , Leadership Northwest Indiana, previously for LakeNET, a web site designer, a 2010 Purdue University Calumet Alumni Leadership Award,, a 1997 recipient of the Purdue University Calumet Distinguished Corporate/Community Service Award and the 1999 Distinguished Leadership Award from the National Association for Community Leadership. He is also an adjunct professor at Calumet College in the Media Fine Arts department. Larry is a voting member for the recording industry's Grammy Awards. Larry has been active as a fine art photographer for over thirty years. His artistic photography work is mostly in landscapes, scenic, nature, still life, buildings, nautical themes, plus includes abstract figure studies and aerial work. Larry's work is exhibited in galleries throughout Northwest Indiana and Suburban Chicago plus appears in several private collections, and appeared in several regional calendars. Larry also a holds an instrument-rated commercial pilot's license plus is a licensed Ground Instructor.
